St. Anthony Hotel Wedding: Monica and Steven

The words that come to mind when I think about this St. Anthony Hotel wedding are:

Glamorous

Full of Surprises

Party Extravaganza

Love, love, LOVE!

Monica and Steven

I had the pleasure of meeting these two at a wedding. My couple, Kelli and James, got married in April of 2022, in which Steven was a groomsman. After seeing Kelli and James’ photos, Monica and Steven reached out to me about photographing their wedding. Of course, I was elated! I remembered these two partying it up at that wedding and knew it was going to be another AMAZING celebration!

Their Love Story

February 8th, 2019, Steven waited in the cold at Calle Onze for Monica to meet him for dinner. Little did he know, she was nervously driving loops around the block working up the confidence to meet him for their blind date.

After a great night of endless conversation, Steven invited Monica to watch a play on Sunday. That night, they bonded over a comedically underwhelming dinner with an eccentric cast and a play that was equally as entertaining. It was also the night they shared their first kiss.

Their third date was supposed to be a quick brunch. Steven was in the thick of training for his second Ironman and Monica was finishing a marathon of her own after.

But fate had other plans. Neither of them wanted the date to end. So brunch turned into lunch. Lunch turned into happy hour. Happy hour turned into dinner. Then dinner turned into three years of friendship, love, and happiness.

Ceremony in the Peraux Room

It’s time for Monica and Steven to officially become husband and wife!

Steven teared up just a bit when he saw his bride coming down the aisle.

“During the lasso ritual, the godparents, family members or whoever is facilitating the ceremony will place the rosary or rope around the couple in a figure-eight formation. Placing the cord around the bride and groom’s shoulders to resemble the infinity symbol is a nod to the infinite nature of their bond before the eyes of God.”

With the blessing from their family and friends, they are now MARRIED!!!! Let’s cue the first kiss as husband and wife, please!

She Did Whaaaaaaaaaat?!

Monica is not a fan of having long hair. However, like most brides, she grew hers out for her wedding day. But, as a surprise for her now-husband, she went to the bridal suite and had her best friend chop it off!

And just like that, her hair is back to normal and manageable!

After Monica’s hair was styled and makeup reapplied, she headed downstairs to surprise Steven. I believe his face says it all!

Of course, he absolutely loved it!

A mariachi band surprised Monica and Steven’s guests and started the party:

As if the wedding cake wasn’t enough …

Steven had his own cake (can you guess he’s favorite hobby?!).

Once the dance party got started, we snuck off for a few more bride and groom portraits:

The bride and groom took the stage to serenade their guests:

And to help keep the party going their had a little late night snack for everyone …

Little did Monica know ….

That Steven also had a surprise up his sleeve. While she had been planning to reveal her new haircut to him, Steven had been planning to play his saxophone for her:

Sekrit Theater Secret Proposal

A spontaneous trip that lead to a Sekrit Theater secret proposal? Sounds like the perfect start to a new life journey!

Meet the Happy Couple

Living in Minnesota, Jason and Emily met during Covid times. And it’s been an amazing whirlwind romance ever since.

Emily loves to travel. Jason is not a planner. But Jason decided to plan a spontaneous trip to Austin, Texas. Then, he decided this was the perfect opportunity to propose to Emily.

A week prior to proposing, Jason reached out to me to help plan and organize the proposal. He originally wanted to propose in front of an Austin TX mural (like the “I Love You So Much” or “You’re my Butter Half” walls), but after chatting a bit, he fell in love with the idea of the Sekrit Theater and how “Austin-like” it is. Plus, logistically, it was a lot more simple and less crowded!

Sekrit Theater Secret Proposal

The time finally came for Jason’s Sekrit Theater secret proposal. As I sat, drinking my coffee, pretending to just be enjoying the “museum” (that’s what Jason told Emily they were going to visit), they arrived.

With their backs turned, I pulled out my camera from under my coat and began shooting:

Jason took a minute to find the ring that was hidden inside his coat …

Sekrit Theater Secret Proposal | Austin TX

Out came out the signature Tiffany box!

The ring didn’t quite fit Emily’s ring finger. That’s how you know it was a real surprise! Luckily, it fit on her pinky so we were still able to take photos of her with her ring!

The right photo: when Jason told Emily that I was there specifically for their proposal! One of my favorite pictures ever!

After allowing a few moments for them to enjoy their new relationship status, we began shooting the engagement portion of their session:

Still in disbelief, Emily couldn’t contain her excitement for both the proposal and her new Tiffany ring!

A huge cheers to this fun couple on their engagement! And a huge congrats to Jason for being able to pull off this epic Sekrit Theater secret proposal!

I’ll be out of the country when they say their “I do’s” in Minnesota but I look forward to seeing all their beautiful wedding photos when I return!

Georgetown Family Photographer: the Ocana Family

It’s been about 1-1/2 years since I’ve seen this Georgetown family. That was when Anastasia was being baptized and she was so much littler!!! But she’s still the same cutie (just taller and older)!

Georgetown Family Photographer

Isn’t it crazy how time flies and how quickly your children grow up?! I don’t have human children of my own (only 4 fur-babies and 2-feather ones). But I’ve been blessed to watch a lot of my couples and families’ families grow, and I see it. What used to be an infant is now practically a pre-teen! It’s INSANE!

So is the case with this beautiful Georgetown family. Anastasia was so much more small and way more camera-shy. Now, she’s all smiles and already half the height of her parents!

Her baptism celebration in September of 2021 ended with a good meal here at Cimarron Hills Golf and Country Club. Not to mention, they are building their dream home in this community, so it holds a special place in their hearts.

Anastasia wanted a moment away from the camera, so I gave her a job: to tell her parents how to pose and where to stand. She was such a good assistant!

After our outdoor pictures, we headed inside to the room where they held Anastasia’s baptism celebration 1-1/2 years ago.

That blue room makes my heart happy!

You can never go wrong with asking the ladies to play with their dresses .. I love how it creates movement and brings out the child in us all!

I truly believe you should never take romance out of your relationship. Having kids makes it a little more difficult (or so I’ve been told). But if you make it a priority (and plan ahead), you can achieve it!

I take this approach in photographing my families. The children always shine and are my priority during my sessions. However, I always pull the parents aside for a little photo shoot of their own:

And, to finish off our time together, a few photos to update their LinkedIn profiles (another popular request that I’m always happy to help with):

It was so great seeing this Georgetown family again! Until next time (and hopefully I’ll get to see them inside the dream house)!

Museum of Ice Cream Bachelorette Session

Okay, but how cool is this Museum of Ice Cream bachelorette session? Have I mentioned that I love my job? I literally got to spend the morning with these cool ladies, following them around, taking their pictures, and having a blast at the museum.

Bachelorette Coverage? Check!

Two months prior, the bride-to-be’s maid of honor emailed me. She requested a photographer to document her best friend’sbachelorette party at the Museum of Ice Cream (what an amazing best friend/MOH!!!) And, I mean … HECK YES!!! You don’t have to ask me twice!

Museum of Ice Cream Bachelorette Session

So the day is finally here! And per usual, I show up super early to sneak in for some photos of the empty museum:

When the girls showed up, it was the normal questionable greeting, trying to make sure we approached the right person(s) 😂 But once that was settled, we were ready to go! And being the first ones in line, we got first pick of nicknames (sweets-related, of course)!

In honor of their bestie who couldn’t make it, they had printed out her photo to take her along for the journey!

First stop: getting their first dose of sweets:

Then we headed to the banana split room for more photo opportunities…

The girls had a little dance party in the red room before heading to their next stop:

Animal Crackers ….

Onto my personal favorite room, where you can whack-an-ice-cream, sit on an animal cracker carousel, eat cotton candy, and be all pinked out!

And what’s a bachelorette session without a little session of the bride-to-be?

The psychedelic hallway is always a hit!

After another scoop of ice cream, the girls got to personalize the walls. The walls will always remember that Casey💗Colby!

Okay, can we take notice of Miss Strawberry Shortcake’s (aka Presley) nails and how they match the cow-print walls?

Let’s Do This Thing

The most interactive part of the museum is the playground that the girls had a blast playing in:

Which leads us to the infamous sprinkles pool:

Taking a short break, the ladies hang out by the sprinkles pool-side/cabana.

Did I mention that 4 of the ladies are engaged? All of them got engaged relatively around the same time. Best friends, soul sisters, and now each other’s right-hand wedding ladies!

Oh heeeeey! Look at that ring bling!

Our final stop: the great outdoors! You can’t miss the big ol’ pink building with its own ice cream truck parked out front! Before ending our session, the ladies played a round of Jenga …

And took the opportunity to pose in and on the ice cream truck:

Lazarus Brewing Co. Engagement Session: Tasija and Keith

This Lazarus Brewing Co. engagement session is not your average engagement session. Tasija and Keith didn’t want traditional. They wanted a session that incorporated their personalities and what they like to do as a couple. Seeing that they love breweries, used to live in east Austin, and Tasija was drinking coffee on their walk in Vermont when Keith proposed, it seemed perfect to do their session at Lazarus Brewing Co.

The Venue

Lazarus Brewing Co. is a spot that Keith and Tasija used to frequent when they lived in Austin. They serve not only beer, but coffee and tacos, as well. And not only are all their goods super yummy, but the place itself is a vibe! Lazarus Brewing Co. has such a fun story, which you can read more here. Definitely go check it out because it is quite the (short) story and then go visit in person!!

Lazarus Brewing Co. Engagement Session

A little back story: I met Tasija and Keith when they were in a wedding that I was photographing. Shortly after, they got engaged and started planning their own wedding. Once they determined that Austin was where they wanted to get married (it’s where they both went to school, met, and started their relationship), they began their search for vendors. Because Tasija’s friend, aka my bride, recommended me (thank you, Kim!!!!) and Tasija loved Kim’s wedding photos, they chose me to celebrate with them. And I am beyond thrilled!!! Both couples, Kim and Jon and Tasija and Keith, have such amazing personalities and are so easy to work with and photograph. Not to mention, they have such great taste! I cannot wait to see Tasija and Keith’s wedding visions come to life!

Now that you’re all caught up, let’s get to this Lazarus Brewing Co. engagement session:
